I believe that every Student is capable of great things, as a teacher I am simply here to help guide students to be great.
Hello, and welcome to our 6th grade class.
My name is Trevor Black, for those of you lucky enough to be a part of our classroom I will be your teacher in the upcoming school year. I recently graduated from Utah Valley University with a degree in Elementary Education. I am also an alumni of Utah State University, where I received my Bachelor of Science degrees in Anthropology/Archaeology and Ancient History. During my time at Utah State University I was lucky enough to be a part of multiple archaeological field studies. I was also able to create the first Egyptology exhibit at the Utah State Museum of Anthropology. I began working on my Masters Degree from The University of Miami Ohio, and Project Dragonfly. I am studying conservation education and zoology in the global field program. Through this program I have studied environmental stewardship in Belize and People & Wildlife conflict in Kenya. Last summer I was in Australia studying the Great Barrier Reef.
If you are in my class, you will quickly find out that I am a die hard Green Bay Packers, Utah Jazz and Utah State Aggie fan.
Although I love history and archaeology, my first and true love will always be our natural world. I three years working at Utah's Hogle Zoo in the education department. I love educating people about the natural world especially endangered animals. I believe that our natural world is in great danger, but we are not too late. Everyday great people, are doing amazing things to help protect our world. Dr. Seuss says it best, " Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. Its not."
I am beyond excited for the upcoming school year, the adventure that is upon us will be legendary. I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you.
Promise me your best, and I will Never Give UP on you!

6th Grade Class Video
Getting to know you video - Instructions
Your getting to know you video can be created on any type of device. If you don't have a video recorder let me know and I will let you borrow one of mine. The actual video should only be between 2 and 3 minutes. In the video I would like for you to tell us about yourself. Include things like your favorite book, movie, band, song, food, type of taco. Really anything that you would like to share that will help me get to know you. I would also like you to show us two different items that you like or that tell us something about you. (In my video I showed the golf ball and a gecko.)
After you have made your video you can either bring the video into class on a smart device, or flash drive, or you can upload it to youtube or vimeo. If you do not know how to do this please let me know and I would love to help.
We will talk more about this in class if you still have questions. I would like to view the videos on Friday September 1st., so you have about a week and a half to get done. Your video will be worth 100 points and you will score 100/100 as long as it is between 2-3 minutes and in by the 4th of September. I am really excited to see your creativity and get to know you.
