Chapter 7 - Algebra Expressions
lesson 7.1 - Exponents
Objective: I can write and evaluate expressions involving exponents.
Exponent: a number that tells how many times a base is used as a factor
Base: a number used as a repeated factor
Factor: a number that when multiplied with another produces a given number or expression
LEsson 7.2 - Evaluate Expressions involving exponents
Objective: I can use the order of operations to evaluate expressions involving exponents.
Numerical Expression: a mathematical phrase that uses only numbers and operation signs
Order of Operations: a special set of rules which gives the order in which calculations are done in an expression
Evaluate: to find the value of an expression
Lesson 7.3 - Write Algebraic expressions
Objective: I can write algebraic expressions.
Algebraic Expression: an expression that contains at least one variable
Variable: a letter or symbol that stands for an unknown number or numbers
LEsson 7.4 - Identify Parts of Expressions
Objective: I can identify and describe parts of expressions.
Terms: the parts of an expression that are separated by addition or subtraction sign
Coefficient: a number that is multiplied by a variable
Lesson 7.5 - Evaluate algebraic expressions and formulas
Objective: I can evaluate algebraic expressions and formulas.
lesson 7.6 - Use algebraic Expressions
Objective: I can use algebraic expressions to solve problems.
lesson 7.7 - Problem Solving * Combine Like Terms
Objective: I can combine like terms by applying the strategy use a model.
Like Terms: terms that have the same variables with the same expression
LEsson 7.8 - Generate Equivalent Expressions
Objective: I can use properties of operations to generate equivalent algebraic expressions.
Equivalent Expressions: expressions that are equal to each other for any values of their variables
a x 1 = a
a + 0 = a
Lesson 7.9 - Identify Equivalent Expressions
Objective: I can identify equivalent algebraic expressions.
