Chapter 3 - Rational Numbers
Lesson 3.1 - Understand Positive and NEgative Numbers
Objective: I understand positive and negative numbers, and use them to represent real world quantities.
Integers: the set of whole numbers and their opposites
Opposites: two numbers that are the same distance from zero on the number line, but on different sides of zero
Lesson 3.2 - Compare and Order Integers
Objective: I can compare and order integers.
Lesson 3.3 - Rational Numbers and the Number Line
Objective: I can plot rational numbers on a number line, and use a number line to identify opposites.
Rational Number: any number that can be written as a/b, where a and b are integers and b does not equal 0
Lesson 3.4 - Compare and Order Rational Numbers
Objective: I can compare and order rational numbers.
LEsson 3.5 - Absolute Value
Objective: I can find and interpret the absolute value of rational numbers.
Absolute Value: the distance of a number from zero on a number line
LEsson 3.6 - Compare Absolute Values
Objective: I can interpret comparisons involving absolute values.
Lesson 3.7 - Rational Numbers and the Coordinate plane
Objective: I can plot ordered pairs of rational numbers on a coordinate plane
Coordinate Plane: the plane determined by a horizontal number line, called the x-axis, and a vertical number line, called the y-axis, intercepting at a point called the origin.
X-Axis: the horizontal axis on a coordinate plane
Y-Axis: the vertical axis on a coordinate plane
Origin: the point (0,0) on a coordinate plane
Ordered Pair: a pair of numbers that determine a place on a coordinate plane.
X-Coordinate: the horizontal value in a pair of coordinates. (the first number in the set.)
Y-Coordinate: the vertical value in a pair of coordinates. (the second number in the set.)
Lesson 3.8 - Ordered Pair Relationships
Objective: I can identify the relationship between points on a coordinate plane
Quadrants: the four regions of the coordinate plane that are separated by the x-axis and y-axis
Line Symmetry: the property a figure has if a line can separate the figure into two halves that are mirror images of each other.
Line of Symmetry: the line that divides a figure into two halves that are mirror images of each other.
Lesson 3.9 - Distance on the Coordinate Plane
Objective: I can find horizontal and vertical distance on the coordinate plane.
LEsson 3.10 - Problem Solving * The coordinate plane
Objective: I can solve problems on the coordinate plane by using the strategy draw a diagram.
